Two Questions for Real Estate Specialist Tayfun Sevgilli

Tayfun, you buy older flats and apartment blocks, renovate them and sell them on. How did you get into property?

I’ve been in the business for eight years, but I’ve always been interested in property. I like working with my hands, it makes me happy. Renovating a property feels calming and grounding to me and I like the before and after effect of turning an old property into a beautiful home. If the passion is there, everything else follows.

When property prices are low, do you take a tactical approach and wait to resell?

No, I’m less concerned with maximising profit than with added value. I want to offer the target group of a property a nice flat at a reasonable price. Of course, I also have to be able to make a living from it and therefore calculate well, but that starts with the purchase.

Tayfun, du kaufst ältere Wohnungen und Mehrfamilienhäuser, renovierst sie und verkaufst sie wieder. Wie bist du zur Immobilienbranche gekommen?

Ich bin seit acht Jahren in der Branche, habe mich aber schon länger für Immobilien interessiert. Ich arbeite gerne handwerklich, das erfüllt mich. Die Renovierung einer Immobilie ist für mich eine beruhigende Arbeit und ich mag den Vorher-Nachher-Effekt, wenn ich aus einer alten Immobilie ein schönes Zuhause gemacht habe. Das macht mich glücklich und gibt mir eine innere Zufriedenheit. Wenn die Leidenschaft da ist, kommt alles andere.

Wenn die Immobilienpreise gerade niedrig sind, gehst du dann taktisch vor und wartest mit dem Wiederverkauf?

Nein, es geht mir weniger um den maximalen Gewinn als um den Mehrwert. Ich möchte der Zielgruppe einer Immobilie eine schöne Wohnung zu einem vernünftigen Preis anbieten. Natürlich muss ich auch davon leben können und deshalb gut kalkulieren, aber das fängt schon beim Einkauf an.
