Preparing for Spring in the Gärtnerei Schlotterbeck Reutlingen

Preparing for Spring

Nature is reminding us of all sorts of important rituals and habits for our seasons – like preparing for spring and newness. How much intention goes into new beginnings! These branches and old wood aren’t just being removed — they’re making room for new shoots and new energy. Sometimes we have to let go in order to grow again. Whether it’s in a garden, a business, or our own lives: letting go of what’s old or overgrown isn’t loss, it’s preparation for something new.

Atmosphere of preparation and anticipation

I had the privilege of filming this process last year around this time, capturing gardeners at work as they trimmed trees and branches in preparation for spring. It was a cold day and while we had hoped for sunshine, it stayed pretty cloudy. However, the moody atmosphere isn’t all too bad — it adds to the meditative quality of the cutting and trimming. It enhances the atmosphere of preparation and anticipation. Video has a way of slowing us down, of making us notice what we might otherwise walk past. It also brings across a strong sense of atmosphere and identification.

Video doesn’t just document a moment; it invites the viewer into it. Viewers get to know the people behind a business or brand without having to leave the couch — and business owners and their teams can introduce themselves to prospects without being tied to office hours.

Room for something new

Spring feels like the right time to think about what we’re carrying that no longer serves us. Old habits, outdated approaches, overgrown ideas. What would happen if we pruned those back with the same quiet confidence as these gardeners preparing for spring?

If you’re thinking about refreshing your online presence this spring — new portraits, a brand video, or social media content that finally feels like you — I’d love to help you make room for something new.

What are you making room for this spring?

The gardeners in the video are from Gartenbaumschule Schlotterbeck in Reutlingen, Germany.
