Secrets

One of the reasons I love to be a photographer is, that it gives me the excuse to explore new places, to meet new people, and to encounter new stories. This summer, I met Christine Eggert for an article in the DRAN magazine, and her story is pretty extraordinary. She is a mom of two and a successful Instagram influencer. She is also deaf. However, for her first few years of Instagramming, she kept this a secret because she feared rejection.

Today, she writes on her account _chocosecret_: “I am proud to be deaf and of the way I live.” In fact, being deaf and mastering life successfully despite this limitation has made her stand out from the crowd of Instagram influencers. Being deaf has not only shaped her and her character.  By letting go of her secret and by showing up as who she really is, she also can inspire others to be authentic and live true to themselves. She freed herself from the urge to hide – and others, too.

Let go of secrets

That`s what creativity is about after all: not to live for a fake appearance, but to record true stories, and to help and encourage others.  We tend to have the desire to make a perfect appearance so that no one would find a reason for judgment. I often feel like I have to keep something a secret because it might give others an opportunity to judge me. Often, I forget that this is helping neither me nor others.

If instead, we have the courage to keep it real, to live true to ourselves, we would not only set ourselves free but we could possibly encourage others, too. And ultimately, this would result in a – not so much perfect – but more remarkable appearance. And free up extra energy for authentic and unique creative work.

Geheimnisse

Geheimnisse
